The Hilton Head Island Carolina Shag Club invites all young people who like music, dance and
fun to learn the Carolina State Dance, the Shag. Although there is not an active Junior Shag Club in the area at this time, our Club is eager to provide help to all “juniors” interested in Shag
dancing. We will be posting announcements of Junior Shag workshops and dance opportunities
throughout the region when they are available.
For those who want to check out Shag dancing right here in Hilton Head, you can attend one of
our dances held most every Friday night at Christ Lutheran Church’s Heinrichs Hall. Those
young dancers under eighteen do need to be accompanied by an adult, but there is no age limit
for Shag dancing! We are always glad to welcome those who want to come for a visit or to even
join the Club … dance lessons are free to all members. We feel strongly that in the process of
learning to dance, young people can learn much more. They gain confidence, respect for others,
manners and social graces, positive communication skills and all while making friends and
having fun.
Our Club dance instructors can also help with organizing a Junior Shag Club. We can visit
organizations in the community wherever young people may gather and offer a series of dance
lessons at their establishment … we have been proclaimed “Junior Shag Friendly.” You can learn more about Club membership, Friday night dances and dance lesson right here on our website.
